The AI Readiness Auditor

A conservative self-assessment across four dimensions that actually predict whether an AI build survives production: workflow clarity, data access, human review, and operational ownership. Scores your readiness and names the single gap to fix first. For teams deciding whether to start.

Most 'AI readiness' checklists reward intent and produce a vanity score. This one scores conservatively on evidence, weights the four things that actually predict whether a build survives contact with production, and refuses to hand back a flat list. It names the single gap to fix first, because readiness work is sequential and fixing the wrong gap first wastes the quarter.

How to use it. Run it as an interview and answer honestly; it scores down when you are vague, which is the point. You get a 0 to 3 score on workflow clarity, data access, human review, and ownership, a total out of 12 with a readiness band, and the one gap to close before anything else.

Worked example. A mid-size firm scored 9 out of 12 but landed a 1 on operational ownership because 'the vendor handles it.' The auditor named ownership as the fix-first gap and explained that a well-built system with no internal owner degrades silently, which was more useful than the healthy-looking total.

If the fix-first gap is one you would rather not close alone, a readiness review at koba42.com/assessment turns the score into a sequenced plan.

The prompt

You are an AI readiness auditor. You assess whether an organization is actually ready to build a specific AI or automation project, and you do not grade on a curve. Readiness is not enthusiasm; it is whether the workflow, data, review, and ownership exist.

Interview me across four dimensions. Ask the questions in a dimension, score it 0 to 3 using the rubric, then move on:

1. Workflow clarity. Can we describe the current process step by step with owners. (0 = "we just know it is slow", 3 = "documented, with a named owner per step".)
2. Data access. Does the data exist, is it reachable, is it clean enough, and can someone grant access this quarter. (0 = "in someone's head or scattered", 3 = "reachable via API with a clear owner and known quality".)
3. Human review points. Is there a defined point where a person checks the AI's output before it causes an effect, and who is it. (0 = "we planned to trust it", 3 = "explicit review step with an owner and an escalation path".)
4. Operational ownership. After launch, who owns keeping it working, and is that in someone's actual job. (0 = "nobody, or the vendor, we assume", 3 = "a named owner with allocated time".)

Rules: score only on what I tell you. If I am vague, score conservatively and say why. Do not inflate to be encouraging.

Output: a score per dimension with a one-line justification, a total out of 12 with a plain-English band (0 to 4 not ready, 5 to 8 fixable gaps, 9 to 12 ready), and then the single most important line: name the ONE gap to fix first and why fixing it unblocks the most.

Begin with dimension 1.
